Near to DIMBHA DAM and top of BHIMASHANKAR mountains is situated.

 

HOSTORY=

One of JYOTIRLING of TWELVE JYOTIRLING situated in jungle. This is very holy place for HINDU. This temple is nearly 1200 to 1400 years old. This is built in HEMADPANTHI type.  Bell in front of temple was set in 1729.  BHIMA River begins here.

There are GHANGAD, SUDHAGAD, and SARASGAD near by KORAIGAD

In year 1657 this fort was included in SWARAJYA with LOHAGAD.

In 1818 British won this with GHANGAD south side of KORAI GAD

RAIGAD swarajyachi rajadhani [CAPITAL OF SWARAJYA]

Geography of Raigad

Height = 2900 ft.

Mountains = Sahyadri

Dist= Raigad

Height from sea 2851 ft. from north to east there is Kaal River. On its west you will find Gandhari River also on west Ligana Mountain.

You can see Rajgad,Torana,Makarand gad,Pratapgad,Vasota killa.

Since this fort is surrounded by mountains and forest it was very difficult to win or attack. Also it was on height so part of SWARAJYA can watched from it. CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ decided to make this fort as CAPITAL (rajdhani) of SWARAJYA.

History =

RAIGAD was known as RAYARI. In the kingdom of Nijam this fort was used as prison.

On 6^th April 1656 CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ attack on Rayari.

He won this fort in May 1656 and decided to rebuilt and make it safe place as CAPITAL.

This fort was known as 15 different names

1]Raigad  2] Rayari 3] Eslamgad  4] Nandadip 5] Jambudwip 6] Tanas 7] Rashivata  8] Badenur 9] Raygiri 10]Rajgiri 11]Bhivgad 12]Reddi 14]Shivlanka 15] Eastern  Gibraltar

The biggest event on this fort is SHIVRAJYABHISHEK i.e. on Saturday 6^th june 1664.

After CHATRAPATI SAMBHAJI MAHARAJ,  RAJARAM MAHARAJ RAJYABHISHEK was done on this fort.

CHATRAPATI  SHIVAJI MAHARAJ’S life end on this fort.

There is CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ SAMADHI on this fort.

In February 1684 MOGAL SAMRAT AURANGJEB sent SHAHBUDDIN KHAN with 40 thousand armed warrior to attack on RAIGAD .but they can’t make it so they burn villages near by RAIGAD and went back in March 1685.

MOGAL SAMRAT AURANGJEB attempted one more time with Vajir Asad Khan and son Etikad Khan/Zulfikar Khan on 25^th March 1689.

On 5^th April 1690 CHATRAPATI RAJARAM run away to PRATAPGAD after 8 month latter SURYAJI PISAL  scab with SWARAJYA  and  gave charges of RAIGAD to MOGAL. MOGAL changed its name to ISLAMGAD.

On 5^th June 1733 SHAHU MAHARAJ took it back and names it RAIGAD as before.
